Abstract

118,552. Macdonald, M. Jan. 26, 1918. Guns.-The projectiles are carried into the gun by a part of the breech which is mounted on a lever actuated by a handle, the projectiles being automatically delivered into the carrier when it is lowered. A frame 1, mounted on wheels 2 and fitted with elevating-mechanism 3, 4, carries a barrel 8' of Howitzer type. A block 9 forming part of the breech is carried by a spring-controlled lever 10 which can be turned downwards by a handle 12. When the lever 10 is lowered, it presses back a firing-hammer 13, 14 and causes it to engage a catch 15; at the same time, the block 9 is brought into alinement with a projectile-holder 5 and presses down a spring bar 18, thus allowing the foremost projectile to enter the block, the projectiles being pressed forward by a block 7 actuated by a spring. After the return of the carrier 9 to the barrel, the firing-hammer 13, 14 is freed from the catch 14 by moving a lever 17, or by a cord, and the projectile is ejected by the arm 13 striking it.
