Abstract
166,697. Lewis, I. N. Jan. 16, 1919. Machine guns.-An ejector mechanism of the type used in the Lewis gun is mounted to rock in an inclined plane to eject the cartridge case laterally and downwardly. The invention is shown applied to the automatic gun described in Specification 166,579. Fig. 4 shows the body 3 provided with an inclined recess 2 in which is rockingly mounted an ejector lever, Fig. 5, the ends of which project through apertures 5, 6 in the body into the path of the sliding breech bolt 7 so as to be alternately operated thereby. The empty case is withdrawn from the gun chamber by the extractor 10 and ejected through an aperture 12 by the front end of the lever 1 when the rear end is raised by an incline 8 on the bolt. The recess 2 is closed by a sliding cover 13 having an inturned end which springs into a recess in the body of the gun.
