Abstract

1336235 Cylinder lock mechanism E KELLER-VOLPER 19 April 1971 [13 Feb 1970] 21903/71 Heading E2A A cylinder lock mechanism for use with a door bolt mechanism has two cylinder plugs 7, 8 which are arranged in a common housing so that in use the plugs can be operated from opposite faces of the door, rotation of either plug by means of a key operating a common follower 6, the mechanism including an entrainment disc 11 which is disposed in a slot 6b in a cylindrical portion on the follower the insertion of the key into either of the plugs moving a pair of coupling members 9a, 9b so that the entrainment disc is coupled only to the cylinder in which the key is disposed rotation of the cylinder by the key through 360‹ rotating the follower, the connection of the entrainment disc to the follower being such however that the follower only rotates through a smaller angle. In the construction shown the angle through which the follower rotates is approximately 270‹ being limited to this by the engagement of a lug 6a of the follower with a portion 3 of the housing. The lug 6a is in use engaged with the bolt of the bolt mechanism. The entrainment disc has the shape of a circular segment having a chordal surface 11a which cooperates with either of two faces 14, 15 of the follower which are arranged at approximately 90‹ to each other. The follower and the entrainment disc are disposed in a recess 5 in the housing with the cylindrical portion of the follower in engagement with the end portions of the plugs and with the entrainment disc disposed between the plugs; the construction is stated to allow the housing to be stronger than it would be if the follower could rotate through 360‹ by permitting the portion of the housing underneath the recess 5 to be of greater depth; the portion 3 of the housing has a threaded transverse bore 4 for receiving a screw by which the mechanism is connected to the bolt mechanism.
