777,489. Locks. LORD, C. J. Feb. 1, 1956 [Nov. 3, 1954], No. 31744/54. Class 44. A locking device for preventing theft of miners' tools, comprises a block A housing a barrel lock B, a notch or recess C<SP>2</SP> being formed in the lock barrel C to engage a necked portion d<SP>1</SP> on a rod D adapted to pass through the tools and enter a bore a<SP>3</SP> in the block at right angles to the barrel to engage the notch or recess in the barrel, which when rotated through 180 degrees, prevents withdrawal of the rod. As shown, the barrel C of the lock is provided with a sleeve extension c in which the notch c<SP>2</SP> is formed, which when the barrel is turned, is aligned with the bore a<SP>3</SP> into which is inserted the rod D, which is retained in the bore a<SP>3</SP> by engagement of the cylindrical surface of the sleeve and the necked portion d<SP>1</SP> of the rod. Rotation of the sleeve is limited by a pin c<SP>4</SP> passing through the block A and engaging a groove a extending through 180 degrees on the sleeve C.
