Abstract

1,005,853. Locks. T. SAVEKER Ltd. Sept. 9, 1963 [June 8, 1962], No. 22198/62. Heading E2A. A lock comprises a body 1 and a spring- loaded and key-controlled plunger 6 which is accommodated within and is reciprocable longitudinally of the body so that it is adapted to be projected against spring action to a maximum distance beyond one end of the body and retained in its projected position until released by actuation of a key inserted into the opposite end of said body, a fixed flange 3 being provided around the external periphery of the body end through which the plunger is adapted to project and a collar 7 mounted freely around the body being formed with an annular system of tapped holes and coupled to the flange by screws each of which extends through the flange into engagement with the corresponding one of said holes. The flange is formed with a shoulder 8 and the construction enables the lock to be fitted to a door irrespective of the thickness of the door within limits since the collar can take up any position along the length of the body 1 with the shoulder in an aperture in the door and with the flange portion of the collar on one face of the door and the fixed flange engaging the other face of the door. The fixed flange is formed by a disc fixed to and concentric with one end of the body, the disc having a central hole through which the plunger 6 can project. In its projecting position the plunger 6 prevents sliding movement of a door 10 to which the lock is fitted by abutting against a door 11 and also prevents sliding movement of the door 11. The body 1 is tubular and contains a cylindrical barrel (not shown) which makes a sliding fit within it and which is of the same length as the body. The barrel is formed or provided on its inner end with the plunger 6 and is spring-loaded to a position in which one end protrudes from the body 1. Axial movement of the barrel is limited by a grub screw which engages a tapped radial hole in the barrel and the head of which engages a longitudinal slot in the body and adjacent the inner end of the barrel is a radial and spring-loaded reciprocable pin which is adapted to be projected into engagement with an opening in the wall of the body when the barrel is depressed manually into the body to hold the barrel in its depressed condition. The pin is retracted from engagement with the opening by key actuation of a rotor which is housed within the barrel, the rotor being held against rotation in a known manner by a system of spring-loaded tumblers until a suitable key is inserted into a slot in the rotor to displace the tumblers to a position which enables the rotor to be turned.
