1385044 Handles ADOLF HAFELE 15 Nov 1972 [15 Nov 1971] 52859/72 Heading A4U [Also in Division E2] A handle for a door 10 of an article of furniture comprises a member 11 having a cylindrical tube 12 received in a bore in the door, a flange 14 which is screwed to the door and an inner annular collar 15 having a groove 16, the handle also comprising a member 17 having a knob 18, and a cylindrical part 19 received in the bore of the tube 12 and having a cylindrical extension 20 passing through the collar 15 and retained in place by a circlip ring 23. The end-face of the part 19 bears against the collar 15 whereby the end of the knob 18 does not contact the tube 12. A transverse bore 22 in the extension 20 receives a bolt 25 having a head which fits into the groove 16 to prevent rotation of the member 17. A cap 26 covers the flange 14. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown) the bolt 25 is replaced by a headless bolt securing a pin in an axial bore 21 in the extension 20, the pin having a square part for fitting a lock screwed to the door, whereby rotation of the member 17 will operate the lock. In a third embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown) having a pin capable of operating a lock as in the Fig. 2 embodiment, a cylinder lock is fitted in the knob 18 for releasably non-rotatably securing the member 17 to the member 11. The cylinder lock comprises a spindle having a helical groove which, when the cylinder lock is operated to turn the spindle, moves a locking member having a part engaging the helical groove, along a longitudinally extending groove in the part 19 of the member 17 into or out of engagement with the groove 16. The flange 14 may be inset in the door and may be rectangular with rounded corners.
