Abstract

[Also in Heading F2] A safety lock controlling a manual locking device on a splinter guard (see Division F2), for a gun using an explosive charge to drive fasteners into a material such as concrete, comprises a housing 4, integral with a fixed portion 1 of the guard, having a bore 9 normal to, and cutting across one side of, a bore 5 containing a manually operated locking bolt 6. When a safety key C is not available, a barrel 10 is held by a spring 11 against the end of the bore 9, a chamfer on that end of the barrel engaging a fillet 9a to hold the barrel 10 in a angular position such that its cylindrical side engages an annular recess 6b in the bolt 6, preventing the latter from axial movement (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown). When the key C is pressed into the lock, the barrel 10 is raised from the fillet 9a and may then be turned through 90 degrees so that a flat 10b on its outer wall comes into line with the bore 5, to allow the bolt 6 axial freedom.
