Abstract

1,254,685. Jointing by forging. SHUR-LOK CORP. 19 May, 1970 [18 June, 1969], No. 24187/70. Heading B3H. [Also in Division F2] In a connection between a rod 14 and a tube 10 the tube end 11 is swaged on to axially spaced external ribs 20 provided on the exterior of a sleeve 12 screwed on to the rod, each rib having at least one notch (23) (Fig. 3, not shown) so that the material of the tube displaced between ribs 20 holds against axial loads whilst the material displaced into the notches (23) prevents relative rotation of rod 14 and tube 10. The sleeve is of steel or comparably hard material. Relative rotation of sleeve 12 about rod 14 is prevented by an axial key (17) (Fig. 3, not shown). Alternatively the sleeve 12 may be provided with a radial flange (164) (Figs. 1, 6, 7, not shown) bearing against the tube end. A lock washer (161) has one or more radial tags (162) which engage in corresponding radial notches 163 in the flange. A lock nut (165) bears against the lock washer, and locking means (166) on the washer engage an axial groove in the rod.
