A door handle comprises a handle part 1 having a shank 2 provided with an axial bore 3 for reception of a bolt operating bar of a door lock, a circular plate 4 with holes 5 for the passage of screws and with a central bore 6 for passage of said shank and the bolt operating bar or the bolt operating bar alone, the periphery of the plate 4 being externally screw threaded at 7, a cover 8 formed with a central hole 9 registering with the central hole in the plate for the passage of the shank and with an internally screw threaded rim 10 adapted to mate in screw threaded engagement with the plate, and means 13 for restraining axial movement of the shank relative to the plate and the cover while allowing the shank to turn. As shown in Figs. 1 and 5 the locking means consists in a circlip 13 which is housed in a counterbore 12 and a groove 11. In another embodiment, for use with thin doors or door panels, the door handle has a threaded shank which receives a square bolt operating bar with threaded corners and the locking means is a key 20 (Fig. 13) which prevents rotation of the bar relative to the shank. A coil spring 26 determines the position of the shank relative to the plate. The cover 4 may be screwed into place by a spanner (Fig. 6, not shown), one end of which co-operates with a hole 16 in the rim of the cover.
