Abstract

1,140,671. Bolt fastenings. TIMBER RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION. 27 Jan., 1966 [27' Jan., 1965], No. 3707/65. Heading E2A. A manually actuated bolt unit for a door includes a bolt 1, manually operating devices 2 for the bolt, and a pair of rose plates 11, adapted to be secured on opposite sides of a peripherally-complete opening extending through the door from face to face of it with the margins of the plates flat against opposite faces of the door all round the margins of the opening, the inner portions of the plates bulging towards one another to provide recesses in 'the outer sides of the rose plates whose edges are radially spaced from the manual operating devices. As shown the bolt 1 is a latch bolt which is biased by a spring 10 to the latching position the spring and bolt being contained in a cylindrical barrel 7 formed with a fore-end plate 8. The bolt is retracted by either of two wedges 18, the wedges being respectively moved by the manually operable devices which as shown are press buttons disposed on opposite sides of the door, the buttons being biased outwards by springs 17. Each press button and its spring is disposed in a tubular stem 15 of a knob 14 the stem having a screw threaded portion by which it is connected to the corresponding rose plate 11. The bulging of the inner portions of these plates reduces the distance between opposite press buttons to less than the thickness of the door. frame so that the bolt unit can be attached to the door in a factory and the door packed inside the frame without the press buttons protruding beyond the frame as indicated by the dot and dash lines 22 in the drawing. The rees plates are secured together by screws 13 one cf which 'passes through openings in the barrel 7.
