Abstract
643,004. Locks. LACRINOID PRODUCTS, Ltd. May 12, 1944, No. 9103. [Class 44] Surface or escutcheon plates are secured to the door at one point by means of a screw and nut or sleeve and bolt device, one element of which is prevented from rotating in relation to the casing of the lock or latch mechanism without imposing a damaging stress on the casing. For example, a screw bolt'passes through the plate 3, Fig. 1, and engages a sleeve or nut 4 which extends through the casing 8 and is provided with a flange 6 which bears on the material of the door 7. The sleeve may be of square or other non- circular cross-section, and pass through corresponding apertures in the casing so as to prevent rotation, and the side wall of the casing may be dished at 9 to accommodate the flange 6. Two plates 11, 13, Fig. 2, may be secured by a bolt 10 and a tubular sleeve with a head 12, the latter element being non-rotatable in the casing 14 or passing through a clearance aperture therein. In a modification, the escutcheon plates are lined with metal, and the sleeve element is formed with the part next to the head of square cross-section to engage a corresponding aperture in the escutcheon plate. The escutcheon plates in any of the embodiments may be formed with pins or the like to engage the material of the door, or with studs 24, Fig. 4. which pass through the door material and engage in apertures in the lock casing.
