1333201 Barrel locks EMI Ltd 11 Jan 1971 [19 Nov 1969] 56687/69 Heading E2A A barrel lock comprises a tubular casing 1 with an internal flange 2 at one end having a slot 3 for the passage of a rib 4 on a key 5, and housing driving pins 15 in through holes 14 in a barrel 12 coaxial with a rotatable bolt 22 integral with a collar 23 with a series of through holes 24 and spring urged locking pins 9 which when in the locking position project from a barrel 7 through the holes in the collar into the holes of the barrel 12 preventing rotation of both the bolt and the barrel 7 relatively to the barrel 12, the driving pins 12 being movable in two stages by the key to release the bolt, firstly to bring the engaging ends of the locking pins 9 and driving pins 15 between the barrel 12 and collar 23 to free the barrel 12 for rotation and secondly by rotating the key through 90‹ and depressing the key to bring the engaging ends of the pins between the collar 23 and the barrel 7 thereby to free the collar and bolt for rotation, the driving pins 15 passing through the collar which is then held for rotation with the barrel 12 through 90‹ by the key to release the bolt. To withdraw the key when the bolt is in locking position firstly the key is withdrawn until the rib 4 engages the flange 2 to free the barrel 12, and secondly the barrel is rotated through 180‹. The collar has a blank area 25 between two holes 24 and the barrel has a similar blank area between two holes 14, these areas are aligned to allow movement of the driving pins 15 through the collar by rotating the key through 90‹. The barrel 12 is undercut at one end to receive the key the periphery of the key having recesses 20 to accommodate the pins 15. One end of the bolt 22 engages in a bore of the key and the other end projects from one end of the casing and is secured to a looking plate 29 and a locking tongue 30. The plate has abutments 31 which are engageable with a stop on the end of the casing to limit the rotation of the bolt to 90‹.
