Abstract

131,209. Auster, A. C. Nov. 5, 1918. Hoods.-Relates to hoods of the kind described in Specification 24512/12, in which one of the members 3 or 5 of the front extension pivoted upon tho main hoopstick 1 is connected to a radius rod 8 connected to the body so as to effect the folding or unfolding movement of the front extension conjointly with that of the rear-part of the hood, and consists in connecting the radius rod to a rearward extension 7 of the members 3 or 5 and in arranging a lost-motion device in connexion with the radius rod so that the unfolding of the front extension is delayed until the rear part has been partly raised. As shown in Figs. 2 and 4, this lostmotion device comprises a link 9 interposed between the radius rod 8 and the bracket 10 fixed to the body. No opening movement is imparted to the front extension during the initial raising movement of the main hoopstick 1, the varying distance between the upper joint of the radius rod and the bottom joint of the link 9 being allowed for by the links and radius rod coming into alinement. Movement of the link beyond the vertical position is prevented by a stop on the fixed bracket 10. A spring barrel 11 may be connected to the bracket 10 and to the main hoopstick 1. The link 9 may instead be interposed between the rod 8 and the extension 7 or the rod 8 may be connected to the bracket 10 by a pin and slot. The rod 8 may be connected to an extension of the member 5 instead of the member 3. In the arrangement of framing shown, the hoopstick 1 is pivoted to the bracket 10 at 1<1> and the hoopstick 2 is pivoted to the hookstick 1; the hoopstick 5<1> is pivoted to the number 3. In the extended position, the members 3, 4 and 5, 5' come respectively into alinement.
