Abstract

127,339. Mort, G. F. April 25, 1917. Regulating. - In supercharging fourstroke-cycle engines, terminal ports 2, 6 in two cylinders are connected by a conduit 5, and the ports 2 are simultaneously opened at or near the end of the induction and explosion strokes respectively of the two pistons, to permit the exploded gases from one cylinder to force the air or gas in the conduit into the other cylinder. At the end of the return strokes, both sets of ports 2, 6 and an outlet valve in the conduit 5 are opened, and the conduit is scavenged and supplied with fresh air or gas from the crank case. The port 2 is regulated by a gate valve 9 in order to control the supercharging. The Provisional Specification states that, in the case of an aeroplane engine, the valve 9 may be controlled automatically in accordance with the altitude by a gasbag partly filled and sealed. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 125,154, [Class 7 (ii), Internalcombustion engines, Arrangement &c. of].
