Abstract

1,212,129. Testing internal-combustion engines. A.A. ISAEV. June 26, 1968, No. 30363/68. Heading F1B. [Also in Division F2] An indicator for measuring the maximum pressure in a cylinder of a reciprocating compressor or an I. C. engine, e. g. for tuning and testing purposes, is mountable to the engine (not shown) and comprises a spring-biased piston-actuated shut-off valve 8 which when opened by compressed air supplied through passage 14, chamber 18 and channel 13 to a chamber 12, allows the gases in the cylinder to pass through passages 16, 17 to a throw-over valve 2. The pulsating pressure in the cylinder causes the valve 2 to reciprocate between seats 5, 6 thereby placing the channel 13 alternately into communication with the passages 16, 17 and the chamber 18. The compressed air pressure is then adjusted until the valve 2 stops reciprocating, whereafter the maximum pressure in the cylinder can be determined from the adjusted value of the air pressure. A seal 11 co-operates with piston 10 when the valve 8 is open to prevent leakage between the cylinder and the chamber 12.
