Abstract

1,199,575. Electron guns. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO. Ltd. 26 Oct., 1967 [17 Dec., 1966], No. 56588/66. Heading H1D. In an electron beam tube, e.g. a klystron tube, the cathode 2 having a cathode coating 1 has a central hole 3 backed by a cylindrical cup-like structure 41, e.g. of molybdenum, for receiving positive ions returning to the cathode along the axis of the tube. The structure 41 completely closes off the hole 3 from the space behind the cathode, in which is situated the cathode heater, and so prevent molecules of material, released during processing of the tube, from passing from the rear of the cathode to the cathode coating.
