Abstract

1,196,123. Container closures. W. R. GRACE & CO. 28 Sept., 1967 [30 Sept., 1966], No. 43875/66. Heading B8T. A metal closure for a glass bottle or other container has a sealing gasket of synthetic plastics material formed with a thin flat central disc and an annular ridge with sloping side walls. A peripheral portion of the gasket engaging the side wall of the closure may also be raised. The ridge may have a step radially inwards of its apex, Fig. 2 (not shown); its radially inward slope may be convex and its radially outward slope plane; Fig. 3 (not shown); or it may be of hemispherical crosssection, Fig. 4 (not shown). The closure is screw-threaded either before or after being applied to a bottle neck. The gasket is designed to provide high resistance to internal pressure, but to allow the closure to be easily removed.
