Printing-surfaces; inking-apparatus. - Rotary intaglio or photogravure machines have the gap in the cylinder, between the ends of the thin flexible printing plate or plates, filled in with a removable closing-plate, and means are provided for lifting the scraper at the junctions between the closing- plate and the printing-plate. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the thin intaglio plate b<2> on the cylinder b<1> has its ends bent in and secured by wedgeshaped bars b<3> operated by screws b<4>, and the gap is filled in by a closing-plate e<1>, the ends e<2> of which fit recesses in the ends of the cylinder and have lugs e<3> engaged by screws e<4> in projections b<5> on the ends of the cylinder. In order to lift the scraper d<1> which is pivoted at d<3>, its holder d<2> is provided with pieces d<4> having rounded ends engaging the rounded ends b<6> of bolts adjustable in lugs in the end of the cylinder b<1>, as shown. In Fig. 5 a narrow closing plate e<2> is shown, and a device for lifting the scraper comprising rounded projections on a bracket b<7> adjustably fixed on the cylinder b<1> by its screwed ends b<6>. As shown in Fig. 8, the wedge-shaped bar g<1> fixes the intaglio plate and also serves as the closing-plate. It has projections g<2> on its ends engaged by pivoted arms g<3> actuated by screws g<4>.
