Abstract

1,073,139. Printing apparatus; printing plates. ROTAPRINT Ltd. Nov. 30, 1965 [Dec. 15, 1964], No. 51044/64. Heading B6C In order to avoid the necessity of cleaning the printing cylinder of a rotary offset lithographic machine after the machine has been used with a printing plate of less area than that of the cylinder, the plate is mounted upon a thin flexible sheet 5 which covers the whole peri pheral surface of the printing cylinder and is ink repellent. The sheet 5, which may be of aluminium or zinc, is secured to the cylinder by bolts and bars which clamp the ends thereof in a longitudinal gap in the cylinder surface. The printing plate 16 is mounted over the sheet with its ends secured to the side walls of the gap. Suitable spring plate tensioning means are associated with at least one end of the plate.
