Abstract

1,145,701. Laminated wall panels. J. E. LESSER (BUILDINGS) Ltd. 12 Jan., 1966 [13 Oct., 1964], No. 41738/64. Heading B5N. [Also in Division E1] A storey-high wall panel, which may be provided with door and window openings 13, 12 and is supported by stanchions (not shown), comprises a framework of metal channels faced on one side with external cladding such as asbestos sheeting overhanging at 16 and on the other side with internal cladding such as plasterboard, the space between the asbestos and the plasterboard being filled with foam plastics. The upper and lower channels 1, 3 face inwardly and are filled with the foam plastics, while the end channels 2, 4 face outwardly. In manufacture (a) the asbestos is secured to the upper face of the frame by screws and/or adhesive; (b) the frame is inverted about the axis of handling eye-bolts 19, 20; (c) the plasterboard is clamped over the frame with the interposition of foam plastics strips while foam is injected through holes 18 to act as filler and adhesive. The opening 12 receives a flanged window frame 29, Fig. 2, which is grooved to receive a keying strip 35 flush with the asbestos sheeting 24, whereby it is held seated against the plasterboard 25. The wall panel may be surmounted by a second overhanging wall panel 23 dowelled thereto, with the interposition of a sealing tube 42. The door opening 13 is provided with a wooden piece 17 whereby a flanged door frame, Fig. 3 (not shown), may be held in place by a keying strip (54).
