Abstract

1,124,289. Air supply for combustion; grate fronts. H. LAW, R. BROADHURST, and B. PHILLIPS. 7 Dec., 1965 [15 Dec., 1964], No. 50934/64. Heading F4W. An open top fireplace 10 is provided with a controllable blower 19 which discharges combustion air via a duct 21 under the firegrate, the blower being disposed in a recess 20 in a side wall of the chimney breast. The fire-front 14 comprises an upper panel 15, hinged at its lower end and used for closing the fire, and a lower independently hinged panel 17 constituting the ashpit door. The air inlet to the blower is controlled and protected by a fixed grating 23 having a slidably mounted slotted plate 25. The outlet from the blower may be controlled by a hinged cover flap (28), Fig. 4 (not shown), operated by a rod (29) extending outwardly through one side of grating 23.
