Abstract

1,119,592. Spinning apparatus. J. J. KEYSER. 29 March, 1966 [7 April, 1965], No. 13693/66. Headings DID and D1J. In spinning-apparatus material from drafting or delivering-mechanism is laid on a sleeve by a guide rotating around it, the sleeve being rotatably mounted on a hollow shaft which extends over the length of the sleeve and is secured to the machine frame, the material passing axially through the shaft, being deflected in the opposite direction at the outlet end of the latter, then passing to the guide. By this arrangement, two twists are inserted for each revolution of the sleeve; the package may be rewound without having to doff it and the use of a package-sleeve is unnecessary. The guide may be a ring and traveller, a cap, or a wing-flyer. In Fig. 1, a stationary hollow shaft is suspended from a hollow rail 4. A sleeve 15 is rotatably and concentrically mounted in upper and lower bearings on the shaft, and is driven by a tangential belt 16 pressed into engagement with the sleeve by a roller 17, the belt and roller being arranged in the rail. When an additional bobbin sleeve is used, it is supported on sleeve 15 by a ball-catch in a plug 14 between the bottom of shaft 7 and sleeve 15. A ring 20 with a traveller surrounds the sleeves and is reciprocated along a fixed guide rod 19 to build the package, by a finger 23 engaging an endless chain trained over two pulleys, one of which is driven. The incoming material takes an inclined path 27 to the top of the tube 7. It passes down the tube and is deflected upwardly to reach the traveller, at the bottom of the tube. The rail is in two parts 4, 3 hinged together at 6: the part 3 is fixed to the frame and contains the belt 16 and roller 17 and the part 3 carries the tube 7, sleeve 15 and rod 19 together with the ring 20. Thus, when the package is built, the part 4 of the rail can be swung outwardly to interrupt the drive and allow the package to be doffed or rewound directly by mechanism below it. In another form, Fig. 3, the shaft is made in two telescoping sections, the inner one 7a carrying the two legs of an inverted flyer 30 which is rotated around the package by a worm-gear 36. The sleeve in this case is supported by a spring-clip 12, and is driven by a worm gear 29 in the two-part hollow rail 3, 4. The incoming material passes down the shaft 7 and through a channel within one leg of the flyer to a foot 32. The gear driving the flyer is housed in a hollow rail which can be moved downwardly, taking the flyer with it, in a vertical track for doffing. In another form, the flyer is replaced by an inverted cup, and the package can be supported and driven from below, the delivery or drafting mechanism being also arranged below the package.
