Abstract

1,160,972. Builder motion. JAMES MACKIE & SONS Ltd. 7 Dec., 1966 [10 Dec., 1965], No. 52582/65. Heading D1D. A ring frame for balloonless spinning (i.e. the yarn is wrapped about the top of its spindle) of the type which operates at reduced speed while lowering the ring rails in readiness for doffing, is provided with mechanism such that the ring rail is lowered at a speed which ensures that the rate of increase in yarn path length from delivery rollers to bobbin is greater than the delivery speed of the yarn: thus ballooning and snagging of the yarn is prevented. The ratio of lowering speed of the rail to yarn delivery speed is preferably about 3:4. As shown, ring rail 4 is reciprocated by a drive originating at cam 11, see also Fig. 4 not shown. In the drive path is a winch mechanism 17 whereby the nail is lifted by small amounts during the build to shape the packages. When the build is complete a switch 31 and a switch 83 are simultaneously closed by elements associated with the builder mechanism and as a result the normal machine drive is stopped and a lower speed drive motor started and engaged to the main drive shaft. During the subsequent downward stroke a valve is opened by an element associated with the builder cam so as to actuate pneumatically a clutch 39; consequently the delivery rollers 36 drive the winch mechanism in a direction opposite to the normal one and the rail 4 is lowered more quickly: the gear train through which the winch mechanism is driven has interchangeable gear wheels to permit the drive ratio to be altered. When the ring rail reaches its lowest point the machine drive and winch mechanism is returned to normal operation. Undercoils are wound on the lower end of the bobbins and the machine is then switched off ready for doffing. The tappets above the spindles are pneumatically pivoted away during the doffing operation.
