Abstract

1,103,267. Doffing and donning in winding machines; supplying and receiving bobbins. K. A. MULLERS. 19 May, 1965 [27 May, 1964], No. 21202/65. Headings D1D and D1F. A wound bobbin collecting and empty bobbin delivery device is mounted on guide rails for movement into a operative position with respect to one, or to one of a plurality of, crosswinding machines, the device having its own drive and control means for carrying out the necessary travelling and wound package exchange functions. Fig. 3 shows a completed cheese 2, the cheese 2 being one of many carried by cross-winding machines on a rotary table 3. On completion of the cheese 2 an associated lamp 4 lights up to indicate that the cheese requires to be doffed. The mobile cheese exchanger 7, mounted on three wheels 5 of which one is stearable, is then moved manually or automatically to the appropriate table 3 to await the instant at which the winding machine with the fully wound cheese shall pass by. The winding machine to be doffed carries a further signal lamp 1 that illuminates on completion of a package and when this shines on a photoelectric cell 11 of the exchanger 7 a pulse is generated via a light 12 on the exchanger 7 to a photoelectric cell 13 on the table 3 to stop rotation thereof. Doffing. Whilst the table 3 is at a standstill a cam 14 rotates to actuate levers carried by the exchanger 7 such that a tongue 17 moves forwardly and under the cheese 2 and then lifts it to a position where, after the arms 19 have been moved apart, the completed cheese rolls down the inclined tongue and to a trough 23. Donning. The exchanger 7 carries empty tubes 26 in a magazine 27, Fig. 5 (not shown) and before the arms 19 can revert to their lower and closed position a gripper arm 29, Fig. 6 (not shown) takes an empty tube 26 from the magazine 27 and deposits it between the ends of the arms 19. the arrangement being such that the thread 54 from the cop 24 passes over the empty tube 26 to the doffed package 2. To cause the thread 54 to wind onto the empty tube 26 a presser roller 33, Fig. 7 (not shown), swings downwardly to a position between the empty tube 26 and a grooved traverse member 18 to bring the thread 54 to said position and a motor 34 then drives the presser roller 33 to feed thread between the empty tube 26 and the grooved traverse member 18. As the thread commences to wind onto the empty tube 26 scissors 37, Fig. 8 (not shown) cut the thread between the doffed package 2 and the presser roller 33. Finally the trough 23 tips the package 2 via spring loaded flaps 42 (or an endless conveyor) into the cheese container 43. Further rotation of the cam 14 then causes roller 33 and tongue 17 to revert to their former position, the empty tube to rest on the winding member 18, rotation of the winding member 18 and a further light signal by the light 12, said signal acting on the photoelectric cell 13 to cause the table 3 to recommence its turning motion. The exchanger 7 then awaits a call to another winding station.
