Abstract

1,124,048. Double twist spindle. SULZER BROS. Ltd. 22 Nov., 1965 [18 Dec., 1964], No. 49512/65. Heading DID. Apparatus for double twisting yarn coming from drafting rollers 1 via a false twist tube 3 comprises a flyer 18 driven via helical gearing 23, 23a, a package carrier 24, 25 carrying a plate 39 with magnets 42 to be magnetically driven by a plate 44 having magnets 43 and being rotated by a belt 46. and a thread guide arm 33 on a carriage 32 vertically movable on a track 31 on a stationary cam 29 to lay the yarn in cross-wound fashion on the package 26. In an alternative form can 29 may be rotated and package 26 held stationary. In the form shown the balloon is restricted by a shield 16 and possibly by an optional shield 15. The guide arm 33 (see Figs. 4 and 5 not shown) has a magnet (35) on its carriage 32 and this co-operates with a magnet 36 outside the shield 16. Magnet 36 is mounted on a rod 37 which is vertically reciprocated by the cam and lever device of Fig. 6 (not shown); thus guide arm 33 is traversed. The cam is shaped to raise the guide arm 33 quickly and lower it more slowly. The magnets (35, 36) also co-operate to prevent can 29 rotating. The magnetic drive to package 26 acts as a slip clutch arrangement so that the decreasing speed of package 26 during the build can be accommodated. By driving tube 3 at high speed a crimped or bulked yarn may be produced. False twist device False twist tube (3) (Figs. 2, 3 not shown) with an upper saddle (14) is supported and driven by rollers (11, 12, 13), drive being transmitted to roller (11) from a belt (8) on rollers (7) via a roller (9). Rollers (9, 11, 12, 13) are mounted on an arm (4) pivoted at (6) so that when arm (6) is upwardly pivoted to allow removal of a full package (26) roller (9) is moved out of engagement with band (8) and the drive to the tube is interrupted. The tube 3 may be replaced by a pin with saddles at the top and bottom.
