Abstract
948,846. Spinning apparatus. JAMES MACKIE & SONS Ltd. June 21,1962 [June 29, 1961], No. 23588/61. Heading D1D. In spinning apparatus of the two-for-one inflow type having a flyer which balloons the sliver around a package on to which the yarn is wound, a false-twist tube is carried round with the flyer in the sliver path and is rotated around its own axis in the direction necessary to allow the twist which is put into the sliver on the delivery side of the flyer to run back past the tube into the sliver on the feed side of the flyer. A disc flyer 14 carries a twist-tube 12 which acts as the flyer eye, the flyer being driven by a shaft 30 and a gear 28. A tube 16 is rotatably mounted in a bracket 78 carried by the flyer and is held stationary as observed in Specification 948, 847 by a fixed gear 82 which is connected to a gear 80 fast with the tube through gears 86, 84 on a shaft carried by the flyer, the gears 82, 86 and 80, 84 being connected by endless belts 88. As the flyer rotates, the upper belt 88 runs in contact with a gear 92 fast with the twist-tube to rotate the latter. As described in Specification 948,845; the tube 16 carries a bracket 76 carrying a pair of yielding nip-rollers 18, the receiving spindle 4 and associated parts as well as the drive to the latter and the rollers from a gear 44 through a gear 60 loose on the tube. In operation, sliver 2 is fed from a drafting mechanism 6 by delivery rollers 8 so an eye 10 and thence to the twisttube 12 and to the package 20 through tube 16. The twist running back from the tube 12 strengthens the sliver on the balloon, where but for the tube it would have only half the final degree of twist. The tube may be such or so driven as to further strengthen the yarn by inserting a turn or turns of the false twist. The rollers 18 merely serve to tension the yarn, so that the degree of twist inserted may be varied by changing the speed of the rollers 8. Accordingly, the drive for the rollers 18 may be as in Specification 948,847.
