Abstract
948,845. Two-for-one twisters. JAMES MACKIE & SONS Ltd. June 25,1962 [June 29, 1961], No. 23587/61. Heading D1D. In a multi-spindle two-for-one inflow twisting machine, for a number of spindles, the associated take-up means have a common drive, and the flyers also have a common but separated drive, and the drive for the take-up means is variable independently of the flyer drive from outside the balloon, so that the ratio of the take up speed to flyer speed and hence the degree of twist imparted can be varied at all the spindles by a single operation. A motor 35 Fig. 2 drives through changespeed mechanism 39 a shaft 36 carrying pulleys 37, 38. The latter drives the flyers positively through a toothed belt 49, and the former the takeup means through a change-speed device 42 and a toothed butt 45. For each spindle, belt 49 drives a disc-flyer 12 Fig. 1 through a shaft 28 and a pulley 50. Belt 45 drives the take-up through a pulley 44 rotatable on shaft 28 and in one with one of two equal toothed wheels 51, 52. The latter is above the flyer and the two are interconnected by endless toothed belts 56, 58 and equal toothed wheels 53, 54 on a shaft 55 carried by the flyer. Wheel 52 thus lies inside the balloon and is rotatably mounted on a tube 14 and 5 geared to a shaft 62 carrying driving-pinions 64,66 for a pair of feed-rollers 16 and a traverse-scroll 22 reciprocating a guide 20 by which the yarn is laid on a package 18. This is driven from the scroll through a chain-drive 72 and an adjustable slipping clutch 74. The tube is held stationary by an arrangement of gears 52, 82 interconnected by wheels 84, 86 carried by the flyer such as is described in Specification 948, 847; it is mounted in bearings in a member 78 carried by the flyer, and it carries the spindle, scroll, rollers 16 and the drive therefore by a bracket 76. Alternatively conventional magnetic means may be used to immobilize the package. The rollers 16, which may be replaced by haul pulleys, are arranged to give a positive nip and gearing between the spindle and these rollers is so arranged that the clutch 74 always slips so that the spindle is driven only at a speed corresponding to the delivery speed of the rollers. In operation, yarns to be cabled are drawn from packages 2 over a tension 6 to a guide-eye 8 thence between balloon guides 34, 32 to the eye 10 of the flyer and so to the tube 14 and the rollers 16. The take-up speed of all the associated spindles can be varied by adjusting the speed-change device 42 relatively to the flyer speed.
