Abstract

1,116,461. Straightening. HEAD, WRIGHTSON & CO. Ltd. 1 March, 1966 [8 April, 1965], No. 14941/65. Heading B3E. A roller leveller machine comprises upper and lower roll assemblies having work and back-up rolls, the lower roll assembly being provided with support wheels which are normally inoperative but which can be moved into and out of operative position to support the roll assembly to enable it to be withdrawn from the machine frame to permit removal or replacement of a roll or rolls. The leveller includes a lower cradle element B carrying work and backup rolls and an upper cradle element A also carrying work and back-up rolls, both elements being accommodated in a machine frame M. To remove the elements A and B from the frame M the element A is lowered on to the element B, the element B is unbolted from the machine frame M, wheels W on the element B are lowered on to tracks T in the frame M and the elements A and B are then pulled out along tracks T and T<SP>1</SP>. The wheels W are mounted on axles C eccentric with respect to spindles S in bearing blocks on the element B and are lowered by turning the spindles by lever arms D interconnected by rods R and moved by worm and screw means G operated by a hand crank.
