Abstract
1433358 Piercing mills MANNESMANNMEER AG 12 June 1973 [30 June 1972] 27866/73 Heading B3M A role piercing mill, Fig. 1, includes apparatus for moving the roll stand from its operative position on the right to the chain-dotted dismantling position on the left, and for then removing the rolls 2 from the stand. Before the stand is shifted laterally, drive shafts 19 (Fig. 2, plan) are disconnected from the rolls 2. For this purpose a pivotable frame 30, Fig. 8, is used, the frame carrying plates 27 which are movable together to support fittings on the ends of the drive shafts. The stand can be shifted to the dismantling position by a crane, or using a wheeled carriage and lifting cylinders (Figs. 9 and 10, not shown). The rolls are then removed from the stand by a mechanism 9, Fig. 2, which can pivot about a vertical axis 11. Rods 14 are inserted through bores 6 in the roll chocks 1, and the mechanism withdrawn by a cylinder 17. A replacement set of rolls and chocks l<SP>1</SP> can then be inserted in the stand, and the stand returned to its operative position.
