Abstract
Composite, relatively inextensible (so-called "mack chenille") yarn comprises one to four core-spun yarns, incorporating an elastomeric core which is/are doubled with one or two "inextensible" yarns. The core may be a mono-or multi-filament of segmented polyurethane around which is spun a sheath of natural e.g. cotton or wool, or synthetic e.g. polyamide, polyester, acrylic or cellulosic, staple fibres. The or each "inextensible" yarn may be a single yarn of natural or synthetic staple fibres or filaments. When more than one yarn of each type is employed in forming the composite yarn, the doubling may be performed in one or separate stages and in opposite directions (to render the composite yarn twist-stable).
