Abstract

854,279. Yarns and threads. BRITISH BELTING & ASBESTOS Ltd. April 30, 1957 [Jan. 31, 1956], No. 3079/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 120(3) [Also in Groups VIII and XXV]. Composite yarn comprising loose staple fibre yarn reinforced and bound by continuous filament yarn is formed by doubling filament yarn with initially twisted staple fibre yarn or low twist roving with doubling twist opposite to the twist of the fibre yarn or roving e.g. 5 turns per inch i.e. 50-100% or more thereof, to produce an intermediate yarn in which the staple fibre yarn or roving is untwisted and disposed helically around the filament yarn, then cabling two or more intermediate yarns with low twist opposite to the doubling twist, e.g. 2À5 turns per inch or 40-60% thereof. The filament yarn may be of polyamide (nylon), polyester, polyarylonitrile, polyurethane, vinyl polymer or capolymer, cellulose acetate or triacetate or viscose, polyethylene, glass, polytetrafluorethylene or combinations thereof; the fibre yarn or roving may comprise staple fibres of the above materials and/or cotton, wool, flax, hemp, sisale coir, asbestos and blends thereof. The composite, cabled-yarn may be impregnated and/or coated with synthetic resin e.g. polyvinyl chloride, prior or subsequent to weaving into fabrics. Specification 706,403 is referred to.
