Abstract

1356733 Spinning yarns JOHNS-MANVILLE CORP 27 March 1972 [29 March 1971] 14203/72 Headings D1F and D1W Asbestos yarn is composed of a combination including staple asbestos fibres and spun yarn of staple polyvinyl alcohol fibres. The latter may constitute a reinforcing core strand for intertwined asbestos fibres overlying thereabout and interlocked therewith by twist The asbestos fibres may be blended with up to 25% by weight of staple, organic e.g. rayon, cotton, polyamide or polyester, fibres. In a process of manufacture, carded webs or ribbons of the asbestos fibres or fibre blend are combined with reinforcement strands and both are subjected to the rolling, rubbing and falsetwisting action of successive rubbing aprons to produce "rovings" which are directly twisted into yarns.
