Abstract

1,092,084. Sliver guides; stop motions. MAREMONT CORPORATION. Nov. 4, 1964 [Nov. 5, 1963], No. 45060/64. Headings DID and DIN. Apparatus converting a web into a sliver e.g. following doffing of a carded web, comprises a pair of rolls and a guide member closely adjacent the rolls and having an open passageway as formed as to facilitate the introduction of a web. The guide member is formed from two plates 42, 46 providing a lateral entry for threading-up as well as a through passage. The plates are spaced to correspond to the desired width of the sliver. Both rollers 34, 36 are driven, one being pivoted and spring-urged against the other, and are cantilever mounted to facilitate threading from one end. In order to reduce the tendency of fibres to wrap around the roller shafts, one of the rollers may be provided at its inner end with a flange and the other with a co-operating inwardly-stepped edge. Clearer blades 52, 54 are provided. An electric switch is mounted for operation by the arm carrying the pivoted and spring-urged roller and is arranged to cut out the drive when the sliver runs out.
