8290. Robertshaw, C. April 20. Carding-engines.-The fibre, as it leaves the doffer, is conducted sideways by a travelling apron to a pair of vertical rollers f, g, which are connected together by gearing, and one of them is carried by a spring arm w. Between the apron and the rollers is a guide-plate A, of which the upper part C is pivoted at C<1> to the lower in order to facilitate the threading of the sliver into the guide-aperture B, B<1> and between the rollers. Spring blocks are pressed against the rollers to keep them clear of fibres.
