Abstract
7404. Burrows, T. March 22. Gill boxes for flax, hemp, china grass, &c. The material is fed by an apron Bx and a pair of rollers to a set of gill fallers C, into which the fibre is pressed by means of a dabbing-brush D, operated from an eccentric E. Over the drawing- rollers F, G are stretched endless bands H, I, and as the fibre is drawn from the gills it is lapped upon the upper endless apron and travels round and round with it, passing a number of times beneath a pressing-roller M and between the fluted drawing-rollers until the endless lap has attained a sufficient thickness, when it is removed in any suitable way. If desired, a porcupine roller working in a trough may be arranged between the feeding-rollers and the gills.
