Abstract

523,579. Sliver-guides. COURTAULDS, Ltd., HARDACRE, W., SAVILLE, E., and MORTON, E. A. Jan. 6, 1939, No. 544. [Class 120 (i)] A sliver guide for conducting a sliver from a pair of rollers comprises a funnel-like device having one end with an acute-angled edge which is fitted against the lower roller to act as a doctor blade and divert the sliver therefrom. As shown the conductor consists of a metal plate 4 having a sharp edge 6 along one of its ends which is fitted against the lower roller 2 ; the side walls of the conductor are formed by U-shaped members 5 each pivoted adjacent one end to the plate 4 by a bolt 7 so that the members can be adjusted to deal with different thicknesses of sliver or to effect different degrees of compacting of the sliver; the edges 8, 9 of the members 5 may be sharp to facilitate the passage of the sliver.
