Apparatus for crushing impurities in drafted webs has a smooth hard roller that acts as a drafting roller in association with one or two resiliently covered rollers and also acts as a crushing roller by association with another hard, smooth roller. The crushing rollers 6, 8 may be mounted at the delivery end of the drafting unit, Fig. 1 (not shown), or intermediately as 12, 13 in Fig. 2.
