Abstract

A steel containing C 0.08-0.3%; Si 0.02-0.6%; Mn 0.5-2.5%; N less than 0.045%, the whole or part of which is bound to Al to give an AlN content of 0.03-0.12% and the rest if any of which is bound to less than 0.2% Nb or less than 0.12% Ti Cr 0.1-1, Mo 0.05-1, Cu 0.05-1, V 0.005-0.3, B 0.0005-0.01; Fe the balance, is hot worked with a starting temperature not above 1200 DEG C. and a finishing temperature not below 700 DEG C. and is given at least a 20% reduction in one or more passes below 1000 DEG C.
