Abstract

1,042,755. Tray-like containers. BOXES Ltd. Nov. 13, 1964 [Aug. 15, 1963; Sept. 11, 1963], Nos. 32274/63 and 35869/63. Heading B8P. A collapsible tray is made from a blank and has a base portion 1 and hollow end walls B, with diagonal internal stiffeners 12, formed from panels 2, 3, 4a. As shown, separate side walls A are formed from panels 6, 7, 8, with or without internal stiffeners 20. The side walls A may have attachment tongues 26 which engage in slits 27 of the main blank. In an alternative embodiment, all the tray walls are formed from panels integral with the blank, Fig. 1 (not shown). Each end wall portion is completed by a flap 5, which may be glued to the bottom 1, with a line d placed on a line d<SP>1</SP>. Stiffeners may be provided in the end walls. The side walls are similarly formed and in addition have narrow flaps 9 and an integral internal diagonal stiffener 12, Fig. 4 (not shown). Panels 8 may have end flaps 10 which are folded perpendicularly to the panels when the side walls are erected. The side and end walls may be arranged to overlap. Alternatively, single or double ply plane walls C can be used in place of one pair of opposite hollow walls, Fig. 6 (not shown); flaps 32 may be provided on these walls for engagement in slots 33 in the hollow walls A1. The container may be enclosed in a wrapper of shrink or non-shrink type material holding the walls in position.
