Abstract
1,039,525. Exhaust silencers. WALKER MANUFACTURING CO. May 17, 1963 [June 13, 1962], No. 19695/63. Class FIB. An exhaust silencer comprises a plurality of components 15, 35, 31, disposed in a pipe 7 and having portions of reduced diameter to form with the pipe wall silencing chambers 23, 45, 47 49, connected to the gas flow passage, the components 15, 35, 31, being secured to the pipe 7 at one end only whereby the pipe may be bent with the components inside. Component 15 has a flange 17 welded to the pipe 7 and forms a resonant space 23 connected to the gas passage through an annular gap 27 and silences low frequencies whereas component 35 silences high frequencies and has one end flange 37 welded to the pipe 7 and forms spaces 45, 47, 49, connected to the gas flow passage through perforations 51. The components are separated by spaces 33 forming expansion chambers. The pipe 7 may be coated with ceramic.
