Abstract

1364100 Silencing gaseous flow L W STEMP 2 Nov 1972 [3 Nov 1971] 51090/71 Heading F1B An exhaust gas silencer comprises inner and outer arcuate members 20, 20A and 34, 34A secured in radially spaced relation by plates 12 and 14. The arcuate members consist of an inner perforated wall 24 or 38 and an outer imperforate wall 22 or 26 with sound absorbing material 30 between the walls. Longitudinally extendings gaps 32 and 34 between the pairs of arcuate members 20, 20A and 34, 34A, between the ends of single inner and outer arcuate members (48 and 52), Fig. 3 (not shown) or between adjacent ends of trios of inner and outer arcuate members (58 and 60), Fig. 4 (not shown) provide flow paths for exhaust gases fed to the interior of the inner member or members to the space between the inner and outer members and to the exterior of the outer member or members. A casing 10 around the members directs the gas from the gaps 44 to an outlet 66. The ends of the walls 24 may be sprung against the ends 26 of the walls 22.
