Abstract
1,032,854. Exhaust silencers. WALKER MANUFACTURING CO. March 19, 1963, No. 10791/63. Heading F1B. An exhaust conduit is formed with silencing chambers spaced throughout its length. In Fig. 1 the conduit 7 has expansion chambers 11, 13 to silence low frequencies and straight-through silencers 15, 17 to silence high frequencies, the silencers 15, 17, having a perforated inner tube 51, Fig. 4 (not shown) surrounded by a number of annular spaces 49 which may be filled with sound absorbing material. The expansion chamber 13 has an intermediate baffle 45 and the chamber 11 may be provided with an intermediate pipe 21, Fig. 3 (not shown) connecting chambers 23, 25. The inlet section 7 of the pipe, and if necessary the chamber 11, may be doublewalled. In Fig. 6 the exhaust from the manifolds 103 is conducted through pipes 107, with silencing chambers 109, 111, to a junction piece 113 which is connected to further silencing pipe sections 125, 127.
