Abstract

1432048 Silencers MESSERSCHMITTBOLKOW-BLOHM GmbH 21 June 1973 [3 July 1972] 29602/73 Heading F1B A silencer with closed end and an open end through which gas enters axially into a central chamber 9 through a perforated baffle plate 5 adjacent the open end comprises a tubular layer 2 of porous sound-absorbing material at least partially defining the chamber 9 and through which the gas passes in diffuse fashion and a tubular layer 1 of impermeable material surrounding the layer 2 and having perforations 3 to allow the gas to escape in a direction transverse to the axis of the layer 1. Further layers 2', 1' of porous sound absorbing material and perforated impermeable material respectively surround the layer 1. Layers 2, 2' are preferably of open-pored foam synthetic plastics material and layers 1, 1 are of synthetic plastics material. The baffle plate 5 has an outer annalular zone containing a large number of holes.
