Abstract

1375600 Silencers GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 19 Sept 1972 [6 Oct 1971] 43316/72 Heading F1B A gas turbine exhaust silencer comprises a row of boxes 35 filled with acoustical absorbent thermal insulating material, the acoustically absorbent boxes being spaced apart to form gas passageways 39 and at least one contiguous row of substantially empty boxes 69 having hollow interiors and having adjacent opposite side walls aligned with the acoustically absorbent boxes to continue the gas passageways, the adjacent opposite sidewalls being formed with openings 75. The exhaust gases from the turbine pass via an exhaust plenum and transition Fig. 1 (not shown) into the passages 39 between box sections 35 which have perforated side walls 49 for low frequency sound absorption. The gases then flow via the resonator section comprising a row of boxes 69 which alternate selected frequencies. The acoustic box section and resonator section may be followed by another low frequency section consisting of the same elements. Finally the gases pass between baffles (29) for high frequency attenuation. Specification 1361526 is referred to.
