1522999 Exhaust silencers SAAB-SCANIA AB 20 Dec 1975 52270/75 Heading F1B A silencer for damping sound waves in gases comprises a damping unit A having a tubular body 2 with end-walls 4, 5 through which an inner tube 1 passes in gas-tight fashion, the inner tube having openings to connect its inside with an annular chamber 6 which contains sound absorbent material 9, the tubular body 2 being surrounded by an outer tube 10 containing a space 13, 14 in communication with the inside of the inner tube via a transversely extending pipe 15 or 16. Three damping units A, B and C may be surrounded by two spaces 13 and 14, which may be separated by radial partitions 17, 18 or longitudinal partitions. The perforated portions of the inner tube are denoted by hatching. The perforations (101) are surrounded by collars (111) Fig. 2 (not shown).
