Abstract

953,245. Exhaust silencers. SOC. BERTIN & CIE. Jan. 3, 1962 [Jan. 3, 1961], No. 250/62. Heading F1B. A silencer for jet engines comprises an inner conduit 4, into which the jet nozzle 20 discharges, an outer conduit 9, and transverse baffles 23, 26, through which air enters the exhaust stream. The tube 4 is perforated and carried by the main body 1 of the silencer supported on a wheeled carriage 2. Air enters through passages 10, 11, to mix with the exhaust gases. A pivotal sleeve 18 fits around the nozzle body 21 and the walls of the conduits 1, 9, and 8 are double and filled with sound absorbing material. The tubes 23 contain guide plates 24 and the tubes 26 are tapered and provided with outlet apertures 27.
