Abstract

1,048,871. Exhaust silencers. GRUNZWEIG & HARTMANN A.G. Aug. 22, 1963 [Aug. 23, 1962], No. 33218/63. Heading F1B. In a silencer for a jet engine, water is sprayed radially inwardly from a sprayer 3 into the core of the jet. The engine jet nozzle 12 is inserted into an entry tube 2 of the silencer whereby air streams 13a, 13b, are induced to envelope the jet stream, which is divided up by the sprayer 3 comprising two rings 3b, Fig. 2, supplied with water and provided with spraying orifices 3c of which at least one set point radially inwards. The silencer casing 1 is lined with sound absorbing material 1c covered by a perforated wall 1b and a deflector 4a formed of tubing is situated downstream of the sprayer 3 and may be cooled internally. The outlet end of the silencer may be bent upwardly and provided with a diffuser screen 8 and a perforated end plate 10.
