Abstract

1,003,807. Exhaust silencers. INDUSTRIAL ACOUSTICS CO. Inc. July 2, 1962 [Feb. 23, 1962], No. 25317/62. Heading F1B. A silencer for a jet engine exhaust comprises a perforated suppressor tube 10 at the inlet of which a baffle 31 is mounted on a plurality of supports 35 by pivot connections 37 which are situated within and protected by the baffle 31. The arms 35 are pivotally mounted in brackets 38 and serve to convey cooling liquid from a supply manifold 40 to the interior of the baffle 31 from which it is sprayed into the exhaust stream. Pipes 61, 62, also convey coolant from the supports 35 to spray rings 66, 67. The tube 10 is supported in a semi-cylindrical casing 11 which is continued vertically upwards by a casing 12. The pivotal connections 37 permit the supports to withstand deformation at high temperatures. In a modification, coolant is supplied to the baffle 31 and rings 66, 67, through the tube 34, the outer ends of the supports 35 being closed by caps.
