[Also in Division F2] A catalytic converter for purifying the exhaust gases of an I.C. engine, having catalyst-containing chambers formed between perforated cylinders 5, 6 and 7, 8, Fig. 1, has the casing wall portions 2, 3 defining the inlet and outlet each sealingly connected to the ducting of the exhaust system in a relatively rotatable but lockable manner, by means comprising a pair of flanges 23, 24, a sealing ring 25 and locking bolts 26, the flange 23 being secured to an exhaust duct section, e.g. a tube bend, as by welding. Mounting brackets 19 are secured in the desired position on the converter by straps 21 which are tightened around the converter by tensioning elements (22), Fig. 2 (not shown). The catalyst chambers can be filled or emptied through pipes 13, 14 inclined by 10 to 80 degrees to the converter axis; in Fig. 1 they are inclined by about 45 and 20 degrees respectively. The front wall 2 of the converter has a nipple 17 for pressure indicating means and an opening (18) for temperature indicating means.
