Abstract

1438699 Exhaust gas silencer TENNECO Inc 9 Nov 1973 [2 Jan 1973] 52201/73 Heading F1B A silencer 1 consists of a tubular shell 3 acting with end-walls 5 and 7 to form a chamber 11 in which are located three open ended tubes 19, 21, 23, the first two having partitions 27 at a mid portion thereof and providing four inlets to the chamber and the tube 23 providing two outlets for exhaust gases, the chamber being such that gases can flow from the inlet tubes to the outlet tube. This is achieved by each tube having patches of perforations 33, 35 and 37. In use with a four cylinder I.C. engine a conduit connects each cylinder to one of the inlets to the silencer.
